A college graduate with a psychology degree who supported his family as a carpenter, Winston Shrout found himself drawn to studying the history, origins, and foundational concepts related to commerce. He began to understand that the commercial world we deal with every day is often not what it appears to be. And like many things in life that take time and effort to fully understand, at a certain point it became clear to Shrout that his life\u2019s work would focus on helping other people understand the truth about how commerce really works.<\/p>\n

\nThe Law, original French title La Loi, is a 1850 book by Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Bastiat. It was written at Mugron two years after the third French Revolution and a few months before his death of tuberculosis at age 49. In The Law, Bastiat states that “each of us has a natural right \u2014 from God \u2014 to defend his person, his liberty, and his property.” The State is a “substitution of a common force for individual forces” to defend this right.
