Joni Dahlstrom’s Bio<\/strong>
\nThe former wife of a Brit who was heir to a large gambling fortune, Joni Dahlstrom traveled the world extensively and hobnobbed with royalty. Later, she served as Regent for the National Federation of Republican Women. Employed as a web designer and public relations specialist, Dahlstrom came up with the idea of starting the Tea Party in Arizona and set up an organization that helps local residents learn how to take back control of what they eat.<\/p>\n

\nPublic Law 92-195
\nThe Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act was passed unanimously by Congress and signed by President Nixon on December 15, 1971. This law mandates that wild horses and burros within designated territories on both Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management lands are managed in a thriving ecological balance with the land and are part of the natural landscape.<\/p>\n

How many wild horses are left in the U.S.?<\/a>

\nAs of February of 2007, the Bureau of Land Management estimated that there were 28,500 wild horses and burros on lands that they managed. It is likely that there are fewer than 25,000 horses and fewer than 5000 burros left on 34 million acres of public land managed by the BLM. That’s one horse for every 1360 acres!<\/p>\n

Thanks To Obama and Congress, Horse Slaughter Is Again Legal In US<\/a>

\nDuring the (2008) campaign, Obama co-signed a bill banning horse slaughter in the US and was asked, \u201cWill you support legislation \u2026 to institute a permanent ban on horse slaughter and exports of horses for human consumption\u201c? He answered in the affirmative.<\/p>\n

The following article hints at the underlying reason why the horse slaughter ban was lifted last month: oil and gas companies want to use this land occupied by wild horses and burros to engage in fracking activities.
