Facility Union<br \/>\nMemory Hole | Apr 26, 2016<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1Wq11kb\">http:\/\/bit.ly\/1Wq11kb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>April 25, 2016, West Palm Beach, Florida \u2013 Former Florida Atlantic University (\u201cFAU\u201d) Professor James Tracy, who was fired from his tenured faculty position in January, has filed a civil rights suit against the University, several top school officials, and his faculty union constitution representatives, alleging that the firing violated his First Amendment right to free speech and other constitutional rights, including his right to due process, in addition to the University\u2019s long-standing principles of academic freedom.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dr. James Tracy, filed the lawsuit Monday in a U.S. federal court in the Southern District of Florida, in Palm Beach County, represented by the Florida Civil Rights Coalition and Medgebow Law.<\/p>\n<p>The suit challenges Florida Atlantic University\u2019s vague and confusing \u201cConflict of Interest\/Outside Activities\u201d policy on constitutional grounds and also alleges that the manner in which Professor Tracy was fired by FAU officials\u2014including the President, University trustees, and several senior administrative officials\u2014alleging they violated Tracy\u2019s constitutional rights to free speech and due process of law, as well as the University\u2019s own principles of academic freedom, and Tracy\u2019s contractual rights.<\/p>\n<p>The suit also names as defendants the United Faculty of Florida (\u201cUFF\u201d) and Florida Education Association (\u201cFEA\u201d), and two faculty union representatives and officials who conspired with and aided the University\u2019s administrators in violating Tracy\u2019s constitutional and contractual rights.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1Wq11kb\">Click here for full report<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor James Tracy Files Civil Rights Lawsuit Against Florida Atlantic University &#038;
