Wall Street needs reforming. For Congress, however, to add an anti-dietary supplement provision in the Wall Street reform bill is outrageous and a crime.
Recently passed by the House of Representatives, the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009 (H.R. 4173) includes language going far beyond finance that was inserted at the last second by Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA). This language could be used to grant new powers to the Federal Trade Commission to circumvent and repeal key supplement protections authorized by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994.
Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.
