The US portion of the Bakken Formation falls under the collateral accounts and so far only fringe drilling has occurred. This formation is misunderstood, it stretches from Northern Alberta, into lower western Sasketchewan, a tip is in Manitoba and of course on the US side, North Dakota, Montana. The main reason this formation is so sought after is that you can stick a drill pipe into the ground a few hundred and pump the highest quality sweet crude on the planet. The more north you go the harder the extraction, not to mention dirty.
Why does it fall under the collateral accounts, you ask? Think eminent domain. 3-4 weeks ago there was an article written here on RMN about drawing lines, from city to city? That is a clue, not an accident.
