Rayelan's Hour for July 22, 2010

Rayelan discusses the furor over the building of the Córdoba House community center, aka Ground Zero Mosque, two blocks from the former site of the Twin Towers.

The planned construction of the Córdoba House so close to Ground Zero is meeting stiff resistance from a growing number of Americans, not only because of its location but also because of what its name alludes to. In fact, the mosque developers have even tried to rename it because of its historical reference.

During the 8th century, Muslims from the east conquered the city of Córdoba that’s located in southern Spain. Prior to that time, Spain was a Christian nation that symbolized western civilization. After capturing Córdoba, the victors constructed the first Córdoba House, which became an Islamic symbol of conquest.
